After qualifying in Birmingham back in the mid ‘80s – during which I was inspired by a clinical supervisor who had worked with Lena Rustin and shared her passion for stammering therapy - I spent a year working in Newcastle upon Tyne before moving to Middlesbrough (gaining the nickname ‘Jessie’ which has stubbornly persisted over the years) and gradually extending my interest and knowledge in working with dysfluent clients.

With my colleague Sarah Phillips, I now share the Paediatric Dysfluency Specialist role across South Tees, offering regular Fluency Consultation Clinics and a range of therapy approaches including PCI, ACT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and CBT. We run a weekly Secondary Transition Group in June and are very involved in our excellent regional Dysfluency CEN – NERDSCEN.

I live with my hubby in the middle of the North York Moors, surrounded by sheep. Both our children have settled over in Liverpool so many of our weekends are spent crossing the country on the M62….

I became National CEN Membership Secretary in September 2016 and absolutely love it, especially being given the chance to put faces to the many names I correspond with by email, when I meet you all at Study Days.
